UKC's Premier and Top Ten Invitational
Well the History books have been made the Russian Toy has made its first appearance at UKC's Premier shows and Top Ten Invitational on July 8 , 2010.
My Girl , Grand Champion Hurstalnaya Mechta Nadezdha Rossii," Nadia"was ranked the number one Russian Toy for UKC this past year and she earned her top spot and received her awards. She defended her title with pride and dignity and was awarded the nod for the Best of Breed. There were four others competing for the Top Ten Best of Breed spot, all were shown in the same class as to try to have an even ground without separating champions, non champions and grands from each other. A level playing ground, so to speak.Unfortunately she did not make the cut to compete in the semi finals or finals for the Best in show. We can only dream !!!
The following day was the first day for the Premier,a total entry of 5 was shown. 4 in the Champion class and 1 in the Grand Champion class. Best of breed was awarded to my Snou Mirekle Alenoushka Krasa from the Champion class. Earning her first leg toward her Grand Championship. Although a crowd favorite the judge said she was beautiful and would have her day with a little more age on her. She had just turned one year three days earlier and was the youngest Russian Toy entry.Thank you judge Mr.Robert Collins for an exciting day !
July 10, 2010, again day two of the premier. 5 Russian Toys competing again same classes. The Champion nod goes to Arelette's Pasha owned by Anki Larsson. Pasha was bred by me .Best of Breed went to my Nadia again.
July 11,2010 the final day of the Premier. 5 Russians competing, Champion class and best of breed goes to Arelette's Pasha. And Pasha is awarded a Best in Group 4 ! Way to go Pasha. Am I proud of my dogs and my breeding program !!! Everyone wants me to repeat Pasha's breeding. Maybe......

The Little Dog's Day by Rupert Brooke
The Little Dog's Day by Rupert Brooke
All in the town were still asleep,
When the sun came up with a shout and a leap.
In the lonely streets unseen by man,
A little dog danced. And the day began.
All his life he'd been good, as far as he could,
And the poor little beast had done all that he should.
But this morning he swore, by Odin and Thor
And the Canine Valhalla—he'd stand it no more!
So his prayer he got granted—to do just what he wanted,
Prevented by none, for the space of one day.
"Jam incipiebo, sedere facebo,"
In dog-Latin he quoth, "Euge! sophos! hurray!"
He fought with the he-dogs, and winked at the she-dogs,
A thing that had never been heard of before.
"For the stigma of gluttony, I care not a button!" he
Cried, and ate all he could swallow—and more.
He took sinewy lumps from the shins of old frumps,
And mangled the errand-boys—when he could get 'em.
He shammed furious rabies, and bit all the babies,
And followed the cats up the trees, and then ate 'em!"
They thought 'twas the devil was holding a revel,
And sent for the parson to drive him away;
For the town never knew such a hullabaloo
As that little dog raised—till the end of that day.
When the blood-red sun had gone burning down,
And the lights were lit in the little town,
Outside, in the gloom of the twilight grey,
The little dog died when he'd had his day.
When the sun came up with a shout and a leap.
In the lonely streets unseen by man,
A little dog danced. And the day began.
All his life he'd been good, as far as he could,

A Breeder's Tale
A BREEDER'S TALE.
I love my little puppy, he makes my house a home,
He always is my best friend, I never feel alone.
He makes me smile, he makes me laugh, he fills my heart with love,
Did some breeder breed him? Was he sent from heaven above? I've never been a breeder, or seen life through their eyes
I hold my little puppy, just sit and criticize.
I've never know their anguish, I've never felt their pain,
The caring of their charges, through snow or wind or rain. I've never waited all night long for puppies to be born,
The stress and trepidation when they're still not there by dawn....
I've never felt the heartache of a little life in my hands,
A darling little puppy who weighs just 60 grams !! Should you do this instead of that? Or just pray to God?
Alone you fight, and hope one day he'll grow up big and strong.
Bring joy to their new family and make their house a home.
You know it's all just up to you, you fight this fight alone. Formula, bottle, heating pads you've got to get this right,
Two hourly feeds for this little mite throughout the day and night.
In your heart you know it, you'll surely lose the fight
To save this little baby, but God willing, you just might.... Day one he's in there fighting, you say a silent prayer,
Day two and three he's doing well, with lots of loving care
Day four and five - he's still alive your hopes soar to the heavens!
Day six he slips away again, dies in your hands day seven. You take this little angel and bury him alone,
With aching heart and burning tears, (and an exhausted groan),
You ask yourself, Why do this? Why suffer all the pain?
But see the joy that puppies bring - it really self explains! So, when you think of breeders and label them with "greed"
Think what they sometimes endure to fill another's need
And when you buy a puppy, with pounds and pence you part.
You only pay with money........ We pay with our hearts.
These Tiny little treasures a gift from god we send, so wrap your hearts around them and let your love never end.Author Unknown

A Little Russian Toy
Hey everyone, I wrote a poem this morning about our beloved Russian Toys. I was inspired by my beloved Pooh and others.
A Little Russian Toy
I am a little Russian Toy
As cute as can be.
Would you like to come to my house
And play ball with me?
I know I may be little ,
but I do have my cute ways,
I'm always ready to go anywhere with you,
What adventure are we going on today?
I am very Devoted to my owners
And of that there is no doubt,
But strangers? Sometimes I am a little cautious around,
Until I have thoroughly checked them out!
I'm a spunky little Russian Toy
As playful as can be,
But if you looking for a loving friend and companion,
You have chosen the right one ...that's me!

New web site
It is absolutely amazing how fast this new web site is coming together.I knew that my former person I hired was just a horrible business person. He should look for a new line of work.If he was too busy then he should have not taken on a new site when he did not have the time to dedicate to produce it.
More on a positive note... I am having a great time learning this stuff. And the new picture software is so easy , it is mind blowing. Now I can easily correct all the dark photos I have shot and now use those instead of throwing them away.

New web site
Hi All ,
my new web site is finally coming together. What an adventure! After the split with my former associate, I decide it was time for a name change, as we had been using their Kennel prefix, which was similar to my given proper name. When I started in the Russian Toys I was calling them "Scarlett's" but now I feel that my own proper given name must be abandoned in reference to my effort with the Russian Toys. I do not want any confusion over what I have achieved with the breed.
So I have a new slogan... "A New Name , A new Year, A New Beginning...." A new beginning because my kennel is young again.
Although truthfully the name Highfield , now my kennel prefix for my Russian Toys , is not new to me. It is my former, maiden name, and the kennel prefix used by my mother and myself for over the past 40 years.
I imported some new dogs and retired some older dogs. As you can see in an earlier post the quality of pups I am producing, and I am so thankful for the relationships I have developed with all the new breeders who have allowed me to have these outstanding dogs!
I hired a new web master to design me a new web site last year in July, he had to be the worst work ethical person ever ! Have you ever paid some one and had to beg continuously to work on your site ? It was awful! And that is putting it mildly.Well I finally have had enough. Now, I chose a reputable company, they are teaching me how to do it myself and they do all the marketing, how great is that ?
Please stop by often as it is a work in progress. www.russkiytoys.com/

New Champion Ruble
Coming back from a long weekend of shows in Perry, Georgia. The Middle Georgia Kennel club hosted a cluster of 6 shows this past weekend.Where I attended and presented three of my Russkiy Toys. My boy Ruble became a new UKC champion.I also showed my girls, Allie and Tatiana too.All sharing the spotlight at times. Allie was the youngest at 6 months, who stole the honors of Best of breed twice, Tatiana was Best of Breed once and Ruble was Best of Breed three times.
Ruble stole the show and brought many a smile and lots of cheers from the crowd. He preformed many antics and showed everyone exactly how quick and agile this breed could be. He never missed a hairball rolling across the floor nor any spot that looked out of the ordinary. He proceeded
to show all the spectators how one tiny little dog could be gliding around the ring, change directions and pounce on a moments notice. Then scratch off, in a gesture of ownership of the ground that he proudly declared as his. What a fun boy he is.
Little baby Alyonushka, Allie for short, showed her big brother that girls just don't always want to have fun .She maybe young but she can still beat the pants of of him. She stole the show from him twice by beating him for the Best of breed spot. And she was just 6 months old!

Welcome All
Welcome to Highfield Russkiy Toys .I would like to share with you my experiences, joys , thrills and spills with my World of the little Russian Toy Dog.
I began my search for my first Moscow Toy Terrier ( as they were known for the long coated variety), in the fall of 2004.I went through all the normal channels one would take when researching a new breed by gathering as much information as possible, I should say as I could find at the time. Very little was known about the breed outside its native land , Russia. I contacted the only available sources here in the USA at the time.I contacted the only breeder at the time located here in the USA , Sheryll Alred of Mozaika , who quickly told me she was only interested in breeding tiny pet quality dogs not selling show quality or breedable dogs.I contacted the other two "kennels" that were advertising Moscow Toy Terriers and found out that they were not breeders but were indeed brokers at the time. Importing dogs for potential buyers.
I spent countless hours perusing the internet looking for as much information as I could find about the breed. Looking for fine examples and top winning dogs. There was so little information on the breed anywhere at the time.I wrote countless letters to what breeders I did find.Frustrating at best. I thought I had a good idea of what I was looking for in the breed but trying to find it was a whole different matter.
I finally settled on a breeder named Elena Morozova, Hrustalnaya Mechta, as she was so kind and answered my countless letters. She was always truthful and forthcoming with her answers. And believe me I had plenty of Questions for her.I looked at her dogs and picked out the structure and different characteristics that I wanted in my first dog. Again Frustrating , as I could not find exactly what it was I was looking for in just one dog.I am a bit of a perfectionist and can be very critical of what I was looking for exactly in my first Toy Terrier.
She finally had a litter that I found a puppy that I felt was as the standard described. Now that was the one I wanted.I chose my first Moscow, I wanted a boy as I prefer boys over girls in temperaments in any breed. I have always found boys to be much more loving companions.
I chose a little red boy named Lutik.I changed his name to Pooh,I thought Lutik sounded too close to lunatic and I knew that I did not want that. The rest is history as the say.... now I have many after my meeting of my little Pooh.
So next will be the history and story of my Pooh.
Welcome All
Welcome , again to Highfield Russkiy Toys web blog. As I have stated before , I want to introduce you to my "World" of the Russkiy Toy, also known as Russian Toy. I began my search and infatuation with this lovely breed in the fall of 2004. I acquired my very first Russian Toy , Pooh, (registered name Hrustalnaya Mechta Centinel' Prekrasnogo) in July of 2005.Pictured here is Pooh at age two winning "The Mexican Winner 2007" a title the same as Euro winner but from Mexico. He also became 3 x Mexican Champion, Las Americas and Caribbean Champion and most prestigious the World Champion 2007 by being awarded best Male. Not a bad start for my very first Russian Toy ! Pooh is the most championed titled and winning-est Russian Toy in the USA
Searching for Moscow Toy Terriers , as the long coat variety was known back then, was difficult as there was not much information available outside of Russia at that time. Very few were even available or known in other countries outside of Russia too.Of course my search led me to the only couple of web sites that were located here in the USA. At that time only one of the contacts was a breeder , who openly admitted she was only producing tiny pet quality dogs and the other two were just brokers for the breed "taking orders" for importing a puppy of their liking. One person, Anki Larsson, was very open and willing to help in any way. She admitted she just brokering dogs for resell and was just making a "small" profit for her efforts. As the breed was so hard to find and with the difficulty of importing it was nice to find someone who was willing to share their experiences. The other person, I also contacted was not willing to share any info with us. She was only interested in selling us a dog. Period.Without disclosing any information or her resources. She did have a picture on her web site of a black and tan male that I thought was gorgeous and would like to have another just like him, but again, would not share any information on the pedigree or breeders name or kennel of where they came from.
Having been "in" dogs all my life I knew to stay away from breeders who sell whole litters. There are only rare circumstances that one benefits from buying whole litters, and its not for resale. As we know it , many a kennel has imported a whole litter in the past from foreign countries to see those dogs make a major impact on someone's breeding program. But to import litters for resale as pets is a whole different story.
I spent countless hours searching the internet looking , reading and absorbing as much information I could find on the breed. I do not know the number of breeders I have written asking about their breeding programs and the availability of first class show quality dogs. I was comfortable in my abilities for selecting a good example based on what I had studied and observed, with my years of involvement in showing , breeding and judging dogs. Although I felt comfortable in my interpretation of the standard, it can take years to fully know an individual breed. Since I have never seen a Russian Toy in person at the time I had to rely on my research abilities. Frustration was the biggest obstacle I would face, as the dogs that I dreamed for were just not available to people outside of Russia. Going to Russia on a sabbatical , touring the country looking for and visiting top breeding kennels, was not in my budget, nor were the kennels really made known to anyone outside of Russia. So I had to settle on the best I could find through correspondence.
Another obstacle for us at the time was the lack of web sites and resources.
I would print out any and every pedigree I could find saving almost every picture of every Russian Toy I liked or from the lines I dreamed to own. I kind of was starting my own pedigree database here in the US.I have crashed two computers that died from Russian Toy overload !
I am learning to speak or I should say read many words in the Russian language just from my experiences of researching the many sites.
To be continued.....
